Tagging

I do see the comments and tags on Delicious. The potential for research assistance could be organizing info on a subject and posting it with tags for many users. It is also an easy way to create bookmarks that can be accessed from anywhere.

Library Thing

Library Thing is a fun network to use. Very easy to set up library. Handy organizational tool.

Downloadable Audio

Overdrive looks like a great resource for the audio crowd. I like the classic fiction like "Age of Innocence." The non fiction option and music downloads are wonderful, too. Convenient especially if the cd is checked out!

Google Docs

I found working with Google Docs very easy. It's nice to have it linked to your email. It would be good for work if you are collaborating with others to go back and forth for feedback and editing. I think it would be great for personal documents. I think BPL employees would find it a handy tool.

you tube

I can't get You Tube on my computer at home so I am at Boulder PL to do this exercise. You Tube is a good source for catching things you missed. The downside is that there seems to be a lot of junk on it to sift through. I'm picking Stephen Colbert's White House speech because it's pretty funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOYZF3It848&feature=related I hope this link works. I looked at how Arlington Heights PL uses You Tube and I think it would be a fun idea to have it on a library website for announcements, book reviews, showing programs, etc.

Podcasts

There are plenty of podcasts to be found using Podcast Alley and Yahoo Podcasts. I did end up going to NPR's site to find some of their book review podcasts. I added one to my bloglines account. It is great that there are options to create podcasts. I think I'll wait on that challenge.

RSS

I like using the RSS and newsreaders. I usually have to go to a bunch of different sites to get my info. This way I can consolidate all the places I want to connect with in one place and just click. I think it is a good organizational tool for work or home. Libraries could certainly use this technology to group feeds for different topics. You can find feeds in a basic way by just seeing if the sites you like, use them. I found a feed for Variety and New York Times. I thought the Bloglines search was easy to use. I also liked Technorati. I didn't really like the way Syndic8 was set up.

Wikis

So, I just did the Wiki section of the 2.0 training. I think it would be interesting to have wiki stuff on the library web page. I think wikis are great for communicating. It would be a good idea to have Amazon type lists on our catalogs to help patrons with ideas. I think subject guides and book reviews would be valuable for libraries to have wiki-wise. Patrons would enjoy sharing their opinions.

Awards Daily

A blog that I like to read is www.awardsdaily.com It covers the Oscar race all year long. Great source for info on the Oscar contenders of the current year.

BPL 2.0

Well, I'm trying to get through this BPL 2.0 training and it is a bit of a challenge. I'm enjoying learning about blogging. I read the LJ article about Library 2.0 that discusses how blogs are good for engaging the customer. I agree and would like to see more blogs on library web pages. I read the Wikipedia article on Web 2.0 and it covers many facets of the subject and many associated terms.
